Simpson, primarily for the purpose of meeting a much needed want on the part of the different members of the staff in dealing with the numerous inquiries on the part of the general public, in connection with what may be called Commercial Mineralogy. A good deal of the information is scattered through various scientific and other serial publications, which are not readily accessible, and it has been felt that the publication of the data would possibly serve a much felt want in the State. Especial reference has been made in the report to those minerals which have so far been found to occur in Western Australia, and the figures in heavy type refer to the registration number of the specimens in the collection of the Geological Survey, thus facilitating reference at any time. The manuscript, on being submitted to the Hon. the Minister for Mines, was ordered to be printed for public information. The index has been prepared by myself.
