Excerpt: This is a partial list of sculptors. Born on the 28th May 1874, the son of sculptor C.E.Halsey-Turner. First studied at the South London Technical Art School in Kennington Park Road, Lambeth at a time when William Silver Frith was modelling master and then at Royal Academy Schools. He enrolled there in 1895 and was there for three years during which time he was awarded several prizes and in 1897 won both their Gold Medal and Travelling Scholarship which was worth 200. Studied for a period on the Continent and worked as an assistant in the studio of Harry Bates. Taught sculpture at the London County Council School of Arts and Crafts in Southampton Row, Holborn (now the Central St Martin's School of Art). In 1899 he married Charlotte Ann Gavin and they had two daughters. One daughter, Winifred, was herself to become a distinguished sculptress. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1898 to 1937, became an Associate in 1922 and a full member in 1931. Was one of the early members of the Royal Society of British Sculptors and was a Fellow of that Society from 1923 until 1940. He died in London on the 18th March 1940. 1.
