Commencement orations are dull because the authors tell us nothing new; even their language is copied with slight variations from the authors whom they have most read and studied. Only the most precocious minds create thoughts before 20; from 25 to 30 the majority of thinkers begin to develop new ideas; from 40 and upwards they develop perfect and repeat the conceptions of the period between 25 and 40; they copy themselves as in early youth they copied others. Application of the Law to Animals and Plants. The same law applies to animals. Horses live to be about 25, and are at their best from 8 to 14; this corresponds to the golden decade of man. Dogs live nine or ten years, and are fittest for the hunt between 2 and 6. Plants also appear to be subject to the same law.
