Ten Stories Of Parapsychological Fiction: Short Science Fiction Novels Based On Parapsychology

Unknown Author
4.9/5 (16153 ratings)
Description:A collection of ten short science fiction stories based on parapsychology. Generally, four types of psi story co-existed in science fiction, three of which have, in their assumptions concerning psi, paralleled the three most common theoretical understandings of it. The 'wild talents' SF psi tale reflects a skeptic's understanding of psi as simple nonsense resulting from infantile, or at best adolescent, power fantasies. A second type of SF psi story, call it the "biological radio" tale, is that in which psi is assumed to be a somatically based talent not too far beyond the understanding of our current sciences. The sense of perception, a sense somewhat analogous to sight, but of vastly greater power, depth, and scope, and not dependent upon light. A third type of SF psi story, call it the "metaphysical" SF psi story, coincides with more metaphysical explanations of psi. A fourth type of SF psi story is that in which psi is used as an interesting plot device to explore an aspect or aspects of the human condition with little interest in the ontological implications of psi. Because knowledge of psi and belief in it are so widespread, these stories can use it with little or no explanation needed.Contents: * All in the Mind (1954) / short story by Gene L. Henderson: a disembodied brain and what it can do * The Mind Digger (1958) / novelette by Winston K. Marks [as by Winston Marks]: man who not only recalls his memories but relives them • interior artwork by D. Bruce Berry * The Psilent Partner (1954) / novelette by John Victor Peterson, Edward S. Staub: a man uses his psi powers to make money • interior artwork by John Schoenherr * Sonny (1963) / short story by Rick Raphael: man whose thoughts affect electricity • interior artwork by John Schoenherr * Vigorish (1960) / novelette by John Berryman [as by Walter Bupp]: man uses his telekinetic abilities in a casino • interior artwork by Petrizzo * Psichopath (1960) / novelette by Randall Garrett [as by Gordon Randall Garrett]: a man's unconscious affects the lab and causes accidents • interior artwork by H. R. Van Dongen [as by Van Dongen] * Modus Vivendi (1961) / novelette by Walter Bupp [as by John Berryman]: lawyer tries to protect a girl with psi powers • interior artwork by John Schoenherr [as by Schoenherr] * Card Trick (1961) / novelette by Walter Bupp [as by John Berryman] • interior artwork by Douglas * The Right Time (1963) / novelette by by Walter Bupp [as by John Berryman] • interior artwork by George Schelling * Telempathy [Everett O'Toole] (1963) / short story by Vance Simonds • interior artwork by George Schelling. We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
