Later he went as the Pope's nuncio to Madrid, remaining as such till the sack of Rome in 1527, but was able to accomplish nothing at that dishonest court. This courtier, diplomatist, soldier and author died in Toledo, February 7, 1529, and had a magnificent funeral - which could hardly atone for the unhappiness of his last years.
