Description:Pastor Fred and Edna Scherle were married in 1944 and left for the Mission Field to New Guinea. Duing the years of 1946-1980 the Scherle's spent approximately 30 years serving the areas of Malalo, Mumeng, and Lae in New Guinea. While in Lae, Pastor Fred was the District Missionary and supervised the Lae area. He was instrumental in having many churches built in that area. During the 30 years they served in New Guinea, Pastor acepted a call to St. Peri in Minneapolis from 1968-72 and then they again returned to New Guinea until 1980. Fred Jr. was born while they lived in New Guinea and spent his childhood there. When he was 13, he returned to the states for his education. He lived with Edna's relatives. Returning to the states in 1980, Pastor Fred served in the following Holy Cross Luteran Church in Burnsville, MN; Our Redeemer's Lutheran Church and Rainy Butte Lutheran Church in New England, ND; and St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Wishek, ND. Following retirement in 1988, they moved to Lytton Iowa, to Edna's family home where he continued to be an interim pastor in 11 churches in that area. This book contains some of their memories and stories of their years in New Guinea, Interviews, pictures, sermons, articles and a letter home, have been compiled to share their mision with us.
