12 Steps To Fitness Freedom

Josh Bowen
4.9/5 (9411 ratings)
Description:It is said that if you find something you love to do and would do it for free, you never work a day in your life. This is how I feel about fitness. My love affair with fitness dates back to my early years when I would help my dad pack his workout bag on the way to the gym. I always admired professional wrestling and the bigger than life physiques the wrestlers had. Hulk Hogan, my childhood hero, convinced all his fans to “train, say their prayers and take their vitamins.” That stuck with me for a long time. I had always toyed with working out, had my own weight set as a skinny middle school kid. But the “bug” had not hit me yet. It wasn’t until I graduated from high school, at a puny 140 lbs., did I start to take fitness serious. There were pitfalls along the way. When I joined a gym for the first time, I had no idea what I was doing. Most of what I knew was incorrect and I got injured a few times from bad form. I would work out for 3 hours and never fully recuperate before my next workout. My diet was horrible but I was seeing some results. Finally, I began to catch on thanks to hanging out in the gym and researching as much as I could. I was still frustrated. There was too much information; some of it conflicting and everyone had an opinion on “what worked.” How can you develop an approach to achieving a goal if all the information on achieving it is all over the board? So at the age of 21, I decided to learn everything I could and enter the fitness industry as a certified personal trainer. My prior struggles prepared me for my career with working with hundreds of clients over the years that needed/wanted my guidance. After ten years and a variety of positions in the fitness industry I still think there is a huge problem. The problem was never a lack of information but more as an overabundance of it. So much so it causes frustration within the average person who truly wants to just be fit. From Crossfit to P90X to the Atkins Diet and Paleo Diet, we are inundated with fitness myths, half-truths, facts and outright lies. How do you decipher all this information? Is it all necessary? What works and what doesn't? I feel this book can help answer some of these questions. This book will not be a scientific novel nor will it be a literary classic. I am a professional trainer and fitness coach, my job is to spread the gospel of fitness through these writings. I want to start the book with the one take away I want everyone to have; to simplify fitness and nutrition. Simple to the point that fitness can be enjoyable for some and participated by all. My goal is to impact the reader of this book, to really take the complicated and make it straightforward and most importantly take all the colossal amount of information and condense it for all to understand and enjoy.I hope all that read this book can appreciate the context that it is written in and place that it comes from. I owe my professional and personal life to fitness and I hope to show my passion, knowledge and practicality through this book.Sit back and enjoy the ride.
