One day he was walking in his fields, when he noticed a woman, close to the hedge, carrying away a large sackful of the precious turnips. 3. The worthy nobleman was very angry with the woman, and told her that he would have given her a sackful of turnips had she asked for it in a proper way. 4. The woman silently curtsied at every sentence, and confessed her offence, but pleaded her large family. 5. The good man, after some kindly words, was leaving the field, when the woman, who had dropped her burden on hislordship's first speaking to her, called to him, "0, my lord, do ye give us a hand, and help the poke on my back, for it's heavy, and I cannot get it up by mysel'!" 6. The Earl actually turned back, and did assist the woman to load herself with the stolen turnips! 60. THE HOUSE AND THE INFANT. 18 lines. 1. Horses escape into a lane. 1. Some horses in the county of Limerick, which were pastured in a field, broke through a gap, which they had made in a fence, into a narrow lane. 2.
