Hernandez and first published in 1942 in Peru, by the committee in charge of the celebrations for the fourth centenary of the beginning of the Spanish rule over the Amazon (from Cusco Expedition of Francisco Pizarro and Francisco de Orellana). It is however from a French translation in 1952 with the publishing house Albin Michel's novel and being declared book of the month in France that the novel became known worldwide and then translated into German, English, Russian and Yugoslavian. The work was published successfully in several countries to finally become a classic Peruvian literature.
