Along the way they encounter island folk with varying degrees of insanity, such as a furious smallholder in search of his stolen armpits, a bruised elderly couple whose rocking chairs and mouths are frankly out of control, and a macabre, intimidating, skipping midget who offers them only riddles which they must decode in order to stay alive. More baffling still is the island’s ambiguous wildlife, which has followed a bizarre evolutionary path, seemingly enabling it to change form at will. Finally, the assembled misfits discover what they all have in common, unlock the secret behind their transportation to this paradoxical paradise, and unmask their kidnappers.
