Description:First volume in the Nrààk Confederation Series: Captain Mark Sterling and his team had been sent to investigate the ruins of a city on a world a hundred plus light years from Earth. Dlàšú IV was a desert world, but it was far from uninhabited. The Nrààk were masters of Dlàšú and a thousand worlds, but they were slaves of the unseen Nàsúwårna. Tróáa, the Nrààk governor of Dlàšú, was fearful of their role in the prophecies about the overthrow of the Nàsúwårna. He decided to kill them.
Tróáa retrieved his laser and stood in a shaft of orange light. He fired. The indigo beam scored the floor in front of them. The heat forced them back into the shadows.
Tróáa pointed his fist at them, but his arm jerked so that the beam slashed across the black wall, creating a molten scar, glowing red in the deepening gloom.
Tróáa steadied his laser with both hands. The wheezing was audible from across the room. He fired and missed again. He screamed and fell to his knees, but he was still pointing the laser at them.
“I will kill them.”
Bloody red tears were coming from Tróáa’s eyes. He moaned as he raised his head and fired the laser once more. His face turned to blood as he sagged to the floor. Tróáa had to be dead; no contortionist could fold his body into a shape like that.
“What is it, Šéôn? What killed Tróáa?”
Šéôn was huddled against the wall, and wouldn’t look at him. After the death of Tróáa, Mark and his team became the captives of Nééšalé, a Queen of the Nrààk. She kept them alive only because she believed they might help her people defeat the Nàsúwårna. She wanted to believe the ancient verses of the prophecy. It was her only hope.Ki ósún da’ús.Xîn da’tanà i’fàé xînidi o’NàsúwårnaKi Xîn da’tanà i’çaéa xînidi bás o’Nàsúwårna.
