An Even Scarier Solstice: The HPLHS Solstice Carol Songbook

Unknown Author
4.9/5 (31676 ratings)
Description:There's only one thing worse than Christmas: sequels. The Grinch Who Stole Boxing Day, It's an Even Wonderfuller Life, The Greatest Story Ever Told Again. Sequels pretty much never live up to the original, and, like Christmas, usually leave us feeling let down and slightly depressed by crass commercialism. So what, then, are the fine fellows at the HPLHS doing in bringing forth another collection of musical holiday cheer infused with Lovecraftian tentacles, madness and the destruction of the earth? In addition to satisfying the clamoring fans of our original Solstice carol collection, there were many holiday songs in desperate need of satire and parody which escaped us the first time. There was a great deal of simply irresistible material, including some truly great classics of the season. And with An Even Scarier Solstice, we saw an opportunity to bring something new to holiday music: an entirely original seasonal carol with lyrics by H. P. Lovecraft himself. Troy Sterling Nies, who provided the symphonic scores to the HPLHS motion pictures The Call of Cthulhu and The Whisperer in Darkness, took Lovecraft's weird yet pleasantly sentimental Christmas poem "A Brumalian Wish" and gave it a lovely pastoral musical setting which even the old gentleman might well have approved. As with our previous collection of solstice songs, you'll find all the insane lyrics in the songbook, abundantly footnoted with tidbits of ancient lore. Figs, waltzes, typhoid, Trimethylamineuria, umlauts: all your favorite holiday topics are here. There's also a preface by horror author Ramsey Campbell to put you in the mood, a handy pronunciation guide, and even sheet music for selected numbers. So throw another yule log on the fire, pour some Yig nog, summon your own group of carolers and enjoy An Even Scarier Solstice. The book contains the lyrics for:All I Want for Solstice Is My SanityBlue SolsticeA Brumalian WishThe Cultist SongA Cyclopean Tomb (Down in Deep R'lyeh)Death May DieDeath to the WorldThe Deep One Song (Solstice in R'lyeh)Eerie Dreary SolsticeThe FestivalGo Summon Up the Dead OnesHail Great Olde OnesHarley Got Devoured by the UndeadIt's Mi-Go!Look!
