Description:Greyfriars Church in Reading town Centre has a much more varied history than most other English parish churches.History of Greyfriars Church, Reading tells the story of the 700 year old Church from the coming of the first Grey Friars to Reading to the present day.The building was initially a late thirteenth/ early fourteenth century Friary Church. Following its dissolution in 1538, the Church building became in turn the town Guildhall, a Poor House or Hospital, and then a House of Correction or prison - later known as a Bridewell. Along the way it was taken over for a short while as a garrison in the Civil War. Much of its site was taken up by housing in the nineteenth century - and there was even a public house in the attached to it, fronting onto Friar Street. Then in 1863, it was restored for use as a Church and began and has continued with a strong Evangelical tradition. In 2011 Greyfriars celebrated 700 years since the completion of the Friary Church. This book was published in December 2013 to mark its 150th anniversary as a Parish Church. We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
