Description:Selkies, werewolves, and a minotaur? Eleven-year old Abbie Flanders is surely a girl with too much imagination. Or is she? Growing up in Maine in the 1950s, Abbie is convinced that she's about to have the worst summer ever. Her baby sister Tink is a nuisance, her three older brothers are all pests, and Mom and Dad are working double-time to keep their home, an old ramshackle tavern from the Revolutionary War called "The Fisherman's Bride." To make matters worse, Abbie's favorite person in the world, an elderly family friend named Lily, is much too ill for company. What's a girl to do? Abbie retreats to a special spot on the rocks near the entrance of her town's small harbor, and she has a good cry. When she looks up, she sees a Rachel, a stranger who seems to be a bit lost. Abbie helps Rachel find her way back to the beach, and for the rest of the summer Rachel leads Abbie into the world of the changelings and shapeshifters who surround her. As it turns out, most of these folks are as sweet as the selkie Rachel or Gavin, a bear boy who cannot resist the sound of a baseball bat hitting a bat just right. But one in particular, Aris, is dark and cruel and is bent on destroying the Flanders family for good. To meet the challenges that Aris puts up, Abbie must change from a bookish girl lost in fantasy to a young woman of action, much like her seafaring great-grandmother had been.
