Midnight at Spring Point

Cheryl Klein M. Div (C.L.Klein)
4.9/5 (28061 ratings)
Description:In this, the second volume of the Maine-ly Love Trilogy, the love story of Cheri Cohen and Mitch Levy, begun in Once Upon A Time in Maine: The List of 100, picks up steam. Together, Cheri Cohen and her high-school sweetheart, Mitch Levy, reunited after decades apart, traverse the first full year of their distance relationship. He still lives in their hometown of Cincinnati, while CC, who has traveled far and wide, for both business and pleasure, has come to feel blessed for her home and work in Southern Maine. The waters upon which their relationship is sailing are often stormy. In her own words, CC begins to understand how their lives are more different than similar, but this love affair is an adventure, after all, and no matter how turbulent the seas may be, she is determined to ride each storm out. After their romantic rendezvous early in January, CC embarks upon her annual escape from Maine’s winter, heading south. She does her best to keep in touch with Mitch, and keep him posted about her whereabouts and plans, but jealousy crops up for him; he fails to accept, or understand, that she enjoys traveling alone. When CC has her fill of the sunny south, she turns north, aiming for yet another romantic rendezvous with Mitch in Cincinnati. He seems preoccupied, but sets aside time for her on Valentine’s Day, when they share their passion, deeper and more lustful than when they were teens, yet again. CC finds herself embarrassed, deeply saddened and filled with rage at what comes next. She returns to Maine, unsure if she can move forward with him after his lack of compassion for her and, what appears to be, his questionable relationship with his “bonus daughter”, Mindy. As CC works with couples in her counseling office, she comes to better understand the tensions between them, as well as the unique challenges she faces with Mitch. Mitch’s behavior and communication begin to feel like the sand that shifts during a Maine Nor’Easter, and just as unpredictable. Again and again, after each trip to see him in Cincy, she is grateful to return home to the beauty, stability and comfort of Maine. Her travels, for work and pleasure continue, much to Mitch’s chagrin. On her return home from Canada, CC asks Mitch to help her book a hotel room, giving him her password info, and she comes to realize her trust has been misplaced. As she continues to tell her story, CC also shares her internal struggles: should she stay in this relationship with him, or end it? It is a scenario she has visited with many of her female clients over the years, a story she knows well, but, even as a trained therapist, the struggle is every bit as profound for her personally as it might be with any one of her clients. CC is highly skilled in her profession, but also profoundly human.CC turns to her faith and her love of music, for comfort, guidance, and more. Mitch does not seem to understand who or how she is, especially in her embrace of both Chanukkah and Christmas. Still, she tries valiantly to hold onto what is good between them. As the year ends, CC has ignored Mitch’s directions that she not visit Boston for New Year’s Eve festivities, and she finds herself watching the Portland, fireworks, later from Spring Point. She has cried to music, raged to music, throughout the year, but as the year ends, her feelings are best reflected in Lizzo’s, “Good As Hell.”In the third and final volume of the Maine-ly Love Trilogy, CC continues to traverse the terrain between her and Mitch, asserting her needs in new ways and making unexpected choices on the road ahead. Daybreak, Up On Kettle Cove, offers Cheri Cohen something she never, ever saw coming. We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
