If they did then then they might call it a technique. Let's take an example from the field of hypnotherapy. At one stage people thought that the hypnotist wielded a special power over the subject. Later people came to realise that the results were achieved by the power of suggestion; and a more current understanding is that the subject gives prestige to the hypnotist which has the effect of creating a state of suggestability in the subject - who then either accepts or rejects the suggestions of the hypnotist - so the results are gained by self hypnosis.Emile Coue (1857-1926) a French pharmacist and founder of the New Nancy School, developed a method of hypnosis which brought about miraculous healings. He is best known for his mantra, "Everyday in everyway, I am getting better and better." Coue explained to his patients that he possessed no special healing powers. "The patient carried in themself the instrument of their own well being. The results they got were due to the realisation of each patients own thought. He had merely been an agent calling the ideas of health into their minds. Henceforth they could, and must be the pilots of their own destiny." On the other hand Bruno Groening (1906 - 1959) a German miracle healer who took the attitude that, "I am only God's humble servant.", was opposed to the techniques of hypnosis and suggestion believing that, "I am permitted to help a person find the path to righteousness but I may not make this decision for him or force him towards it. Everyone must find the way alone." And further, "The healings which occurred through him [Groening] are inseparably bound to a renewed return to belief in God and an inner re-orientation of the recipient."So we have two people from divergent backgrounds, both able to facilitate miraculous healings. From biographical descriptions given of both men, most of us would agree that Bruno Groening was at a higher level of consciousness – and yet even though Groening was critical of hypnosis, nevertheless he shared a similar attitude to Coue. Neither took credit for the healing. Instead they believed there needs to be a reorienation within the individual.Contrast the attitude of these two Westerners with the following quote describing the transmission of divine energy from an Eastern perspective, “Diksha is the power of the Guru’s Grace pouring into the brain and consciousness of the recipient.”From this brief discussion we can understand that there have been those people down the ages holding different beliefs and philosophies, working with people of different beliefs and philosophies, who have been able to facilitate miraculous healings. The healers themselves range over levels of consciousness and attitudes to how the healing occurs. A few are enlightened, some have reached high levels of spiritual consciousness, some are just ordinary folk but they share a similar attitude that the healer is just an instrument (of God) that helps the subject to bring about a reorientation within themselves.
