Zack Dougherty feels as though he is separate from the world, hidden behind a transparent carapace. His father, Sam, raises pit bulls for illegal dog fights. When his prize breeder, Rosy, refuses to go into heat, he trains her for the ring and loses their home and everything they own. The family is forced to live out of their car in the streets of Sudbury. Sam abandons the family, leaving Zack, his mother Mary and his sisters Julie and Lara destitute. Mary and her children move from one seedy motel to another as she struggles to keep her family together. While at a local carnival she meets and falls in love with the unsavory Joe Schinkel. But Joes becomes belligerent and abusive, especially toward Julie. His mistreatment escalades after the birth of another child, little Baby Jake. Mary and her children flee the house on a frigid winter night after his abuse becomes apparent even to her. Mary, is unable to cope with her situation, abandons the children in another decrepit motel room. Zack, Julie, Lara and Baby Jake are sent to live in a foster home. Papa Al and Mama Abbs provide the children with the care and stability they so desperately need. They involve the children in their interests such as ice fishing and participating in their church. When spring arrives, Zack discovers the couple’s parish is actually a snake handling cult. The shock of seeing his foster father dancing with Massassauga Rattlers is supplanted by the news that their mother has returned and wants to reestablish a relationship. Zack, Julie, Lara and Baby Jake are reunited with their mother. They spend the summer earning a living picking blueberries and selling them by the side of the road to the tourists passing through. We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
