A young woman in seminary, with a dream of leading a church, experiences a crisis of faith. She doubts that, as a woman, a congregation will ever accept her as their leader. When she was a child, her mother died. Her family is just her father now. She calls her father late at night, telling him she is ready to quit the seminary. Her father, a church pastor, reveals the depth of his own crisis of faith after her mother died. He details to his daughter his growing acceptance of Mary Magdalene's true place in the redemptive and fulfilling power of Christianity. He asks his daughter to dream of Mary Magdalene before deciding whether to quit. As the daughter dreams, the reader hears Mary and Jesus speaking in the olive grove, on Calvary, and at the tomb. As the daughter wakes, she realizes, in an epiphany, what her choice can only be. NOTE: A Christian life brings you closer to Jesus Christ. The closer you are to Jesus Christ, the more powerful your life. A Christian church is a symbolic recreation of Calvary. We worship as a congregation in the presence of "Jesus on the Cross". A woman, Mary Magdalene was Jesus' only disciple at Calvary. The other disciples abandoned Jesus at Calvary. A woman, standing as an apostolic successor to Mary Magdalene symbolically recreates "Jesus on the Cross" in our presence. Apostolic succession does not begin with the twelve disciples, it begins with Mary Magdalene. Mary Magdalene is the "first disciple". Mary Magdalene of the crucifixion and resurrection is our closest link, our purest bridge to the living and resurrected Jesus, to God the Son.
