Description:A new English translation of the Estonian national epic was released in 2011 to mark the 150th anniversary of the first publication of the work. Written in traditional verse form, the work by Friedrich Reinhold Kreutzwald drew on folklore and the Finnish epic Kalevala, and helped catalyze the budding national renaissance in the late 19th century.The translation by Triinu Kartus, an expat Estonian poet who resides in Tasmania, is the second English translation of the epic.
