Description:Excerpt from Ice Formation: With Special Reference to Anchor-Ice and Frazil On account of the wide demand for definite information in regard to ice phenomena, especially in connection with hydraulic development in the North, I decided to give the ice story of the St. Lawrence River as it has presented itself to me, both from personal observation and from intercourse with engineering friends. The present book is really the result of the need which has arisen for the republishing of my various papers on river-ice formation, which have appeared from time to time during the past ten years, and many of which are now out of print. In attempting a work of this kind I found that it would be better to present the facts as completely as possible by including an account of the elementary laws of heat-transmission, which bear particularly on the ice problem.
