Description:It is the summer of 1794 when Jane Austen, then 18 learns that her cousin’s husband has died at the guillotine after being betrayed by M. Morel. A British agent, Mr DuBray, is attempting to discredit Robespierre by exposing the corruption of Morel and others. He asks Eliza de Feuillide to visit his estate to learn more of the French affairs. Jane accompanies her and there she meets Elinor and Marianne, whose father had recently died and left them without funds, while a distant cousin, Mr Collins, inherited their home. Marianne is initially smitten by the scandalous, Tot Massingale, but only Elinor recognizes his behavior as a ruse. DuBray and Massingale suddenly disappear, away on a secret mission into France to save the Condorlet family from Morel’s plot. They are caught, the mother and daughter are killed, and only the young heir, Hugo-Andre, escapes. He is brought to England and placed under the care of Eliza de Feuillide. Even then he is not safe. Tot and Elinor risk their lives to help disguise him, while the distressed Marianne seeks the protection of the sturdy Tyler Rovington.
