In this dissertation, the Divine Office that was the backbone of the liturgical celebration is examined from several different angles. Its historical background is sought in connection with the establishment of the Nidaros archdiocese and the growing literary milieu there in the twelfth century. The liturgical influences and models of the office are traced to various other Saints' offices, such as those of St. Augustine and St. Martin. In the preserved sources, there is also evidence of oral transmission long after musical notation was established."
