London International Chess Tournament 1883

Unknown Author
4.9/5 (15579 ratings)
Description:The London International tournament of 1883 was the strongest tournament ever held in the world up until that time. It was considered to be a tournament for the World Chess Championship. It featured the strongest players in the world of that time. Steinitz, Zukertort, Blackburne, Chigorin, Mackenzie, Mason, Winawar and possibly English would be considered grandmasters on the modern standard. Rosenthal, Bird and even Noa would be international masters. This a reprint of the tournament book first published in November 1883. It was reprinted by British Chess Magazine in 1973. However, the last 63 pages and the last 54 annotated games of the original book were left out of the 1973 reprint. Also, the pages were 20% photo reduced. The reprint states: "Owing to economic considerations, Section XII of the original edition - which covered the Vizayanagaram Tournament of some 50 games - has had to be omitted from this 1973 reprint." In order to recover the entire original book of 438 pages and 296 annotated games, I must thank Princeton University Library, that has a copy of the original 1883 book donated to it by the Estate of Eugene B. Cook (1830-1915). Princeton University Library has provided a high quality scan of this book.We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
