Silent words: A 50-year family saga

Unknown Author
4.9/5 (27909 ratings)
Description:The world of disability is for the others”. As with most people, my wife and I believed that until our first child was born with severe brain damage when we were still very young. We had entered into that world, strange and distant until then, which forced us to start the process of understanding and adjusting to its challenges. Our experience lasted exactly half a century. The first reaction was one of denial; the second was filled with false hopes; followed by acceptance and finally joy. This sad, happy and fascinating story begins in Cuba and ends in Florida, taking the reader to the environment of a disabled child in two different cultures and political systems. The alleged author is the girl herself, 49 at the time of the writing. The father is the writer with whom she uses “telepathy” to communicate her amazing story and that of their family. Silent Words is a modified and expanded version of a manuscript published in Spanish under the title Palabras Calladas (Editorial Voces de Hoy, 2012). The book has two messages. The first is that keeping a disabled person at home involves a lot of pain and sacrifices but also enough love and happiness that more than compensate the bad times. The second message is that people should get close to the disabled, to get to know them and learn how much love they can receive when they are allowed to get close. When that happens, the labels disappear, including those imposed by political correctness. Beyond these two messages, the story takes place through the whirlwind lives of a family struggling with a disintegrating society and then being allowed to thrive when they gain their freedom and create the large circle of friends who add the their lives and helped them through difficult times. The family saga ended on December 20, 2013 when Mercita passed away at home in the company of her parents. She was 50 years old.We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
