D., 1887, at half-past seven O'clock in the evening. In the ah sence of the retiring: president (rev. Benjamin Bausman, D. And by his request, the opening sermon was preached by Rev. Edmund R. Eschbach, D. D., vice president, from 11 Cor. 5 13 and 14: For whether we be beside Ourselves, it is to God: or whether we be sober, it is for your cause. For the love of Christ constraineth us. The synod, having been constituted with prayer, by Vice President Eschbach, proceeded with the enrollment of its members, and in effecting a permanent organization.
