Here they read their gproductions to one another; and the stories which riehl a first read to the select audience in the corner, he afterwards gave to the whole world as Out of the Corner. 3 wilhelm heinrich von riehl was born May 6th, 1823, at Biebrich, near Wiesbaden. After a gymnasium course at Weilburg, he studied theology at the universities of Marburg, Gottingen and Giessen. Having received the highest prize, he was advised to continue his studies at the University of Bonn, and from that time he devoted himself exclusively to history. He took up this study in a manner wholly different from that Of his predecessors and laid the foundation of a new science, Kulturgeschichte. One of the characteristic and strong points in the art of riehl is this: the historical costuming is not loosely done nor superficially put on; the tastes, the aspirations, the loves and the aversions, the beliefs and hopes are in deed those Of a given period, and we see the timer pass before our eyes.
