C In the foregoing remarks, we have explained to you the meaning of the title prefixed to the Psalm, from which our text is selected, as well as to fourteen others. This title is a song of degrees. The Hebrew should have been rendered a song of ascent or going up. For we have great reason to believe, notwithstanding the apparent inappropriateness of part of these Psalms to that purpose, that they were metrical compositions, either intended, or set apart, for the ceremony of one of the annual ascents of the tribes.
