It. Is largely enveloped by the mantle of the animal; in most specimens the permanent contact of the mantle to the under surface being widely marked. It is always of a peculiar fulvous-fawn or nankeen colour, sprinkled in the suture and below the angle of the whorls with bands of small square distant reddish-chestnut spots. The plicate sinuation of the lines of growth at the suture indicates a develolnnent of shell-matter-somewhat. Analogous to the growth of the shells of the familyr to which M.
