If Those Trees Could Talk

Steven Kerry
4.9/5 (10340 ratings)
Description:It is 1984 and pretty much everyone is looking for a miracle. Ronald Reagan is beaming with paternalistic optimism and promises of upward mobility and prosperity even as the sunny sky full of promise he has painted is already being encroached upon by a horrific and deadly epidemic. A peaceful micro-community of nature lovers, hikers, assorted social outcasts, and gay men in search of sexual adventures cross paths every weekend in order to enjoy the beauty of Los Angeles's Griffith Park. Naomi Livingston, a spry, tough yet tender retiree who lives in the neighborhood bordering the park, has become unofficial "earth mother" to a brood of younger people, both straight and gay, who frequent the park. Little do any of the park regulars know that the once dutiful hunky blonde ranger, Randall Damron, has had a vision of glory in which he is certain God has called him to "clean up the park" of criminals, scofflaws, and gay men engaging in sexual activity. Randall is certain that the conservative Park Board and Ronald Reagan himself will approve of his fervent crusade. It also fits neatly within his plan to become a hero by organizing a celebration of the park's family-friendly re-birth, allowing him the media exposure to jump start his emergence into city politics and eventual run for mayor. However, his efforts prove more frustrating than anticipated, particularly in eradicating the "bushies", (gay men having sex in the park). Word soon spreads that he not only has them arrested, but physically assaults them in the process. The last thing Randall needed was for the body of a dead woman to show up in his assigned area of the park. As the LAPD flounders to solve the crime Randall seizes the opportunity to solve the crime himself, interrogating and alienating everyone. Meanwhile, romance blooms, sex is engaged in on the sly, and the trees observe the human drama around them, sharing their impressions with the reader throughout the book as the park's once peaceful sublimity is disrupted by fear and a growing tension that seems certain to explode in tragedy unless the ranger abandons his rabid mission. After reading this novel you may never assume again that the living things around us, including trees, are not observing our own lives in their own way.We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
