Description:Excerpt from The Architectural Review, Vol. 13: Jan. June, 1903 The almshouses on the west side of the church yard are the oldest, having been built about 1553. They look best from the garden outside, where a good bow window and small cup'ola, or hell turret, group very happily with the spire of the church rising beyond. The long cloister porch of dark oak admits the visitor to a hall which serves as a chapel. In it are hung the portraits of several benefactors, and especially of the founders of the allied charities, the building and maintenance of the bridges over the Thames and the Ock, and the endowment of the Grammar School.
