Description:Excerpt from The Journal of the Franklin Institute, Vol. 97: Devoted to Science and the Mechanic Arts; Nos. 576-581; Third Series, Vol. 67, January to June, 1874 The grand pavillion, or main exposition building (marked P), ao cording to present design, will have a length of feet, and a width at the centre and ends of feet. The length of Agri cultural Hall will be feet, and of Machinery Hall feet. The area of ground appropriated in the Park for the purposes of the Exposition is 450 acres. Of this space, the Grand Pavillion covers 35% acres, with the capacity of considerable extension if found necessary, or expedient. The Machinery Hall will cover 9% acres. And the Agricultural Hall 4% acres. It will be observed that Machinery Hall is to be located directly upon Elm Avenue, within a very short distance of the Pennsylvania Railroad tracks, so that no difficulty will be found in making a siding upon which heavy castings, etc., can be run directly into the Hall.
