His points of argument indicated great powers of analysis and remarkable labor but his argument was simple, lucid, forcible, enriched by illustrations from history and litera ture, and imbued with the spirit of legal philosophy.In spite of his devoted labors, his life was a happy one. He loved his profession, and was successful in it. He drew around him the ablest men in its ranks, and enjoyed their affection and confidence.Though occasionally his mind gave signs Of weariness, it never failed, after a brief interval of leisure, to resume its accustomed elasticity; and it was only when it gave way altogether that his friends became conscious of the over wrought tension to which it had been subjected. He died on Sunday morning, May lst, 1859, in the fifty-fourth year of his age, after an illness of a few days, the first threaten ing symptoms of which appeared to give way, affording hope of recovery, until that last moment in which his spirit, serene and clear in its faculties, suddenly took ﬂight.He was buried on the third day of May, 1859, the Judges of the Court of Appeals and the members of the bar from Albany, and from other cities of the State, attending his remains to the grave.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
