She was the daughter of a Quaker, whose Family, whilst the chief portion of the resident families had ed, ventured to remain in the valley of the noted massacre, in July, 1778. But short time after the common exodus, a lurking band of the Delawares, seized the little girl, who, with outstretched hands towards the anguished mother, was borne from a home it was no more her privilege to see. In search of the lost, the brothers for many subsequent years made fruitless journeys throughout the northern portion of the Union and provinces of Canada. To the dying mother, who never lost faith in the final discovery of her child, the sons made assurance of continued efforts.
