Description:Excerpt from Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, Vol. 16: October, 1922 When Dr. Wenyon did me the honour of requesting me to read a Paper before this learned Society, I hesitated in accepting the invita tion, because I had not come to this country with any idea that I should have the honour of being asked to give an account of anything that I might have done; but the prospect of the joy of meeting my old friends in this Society, and also the prospect of rendering homage and paying my respects to the members of this Society, particularly as I know that most of you are my seniors in learning - though a few may be also my seniors in age - was so attractive that I accepted the invitation, and here I am before you. I know my limitations, and the theme that I have chosen is not a very continuous one, so I content myself in venturing to give you a sort of mixed salad, the chief ingredients of which are rats, insects.
