The high demand and consumption of energy, population growth, limited non‐renewable sources (with their negative impact on the ecosystems), human health and economic development have all prompted these governments to find alternative energy sources, revise their energy strategies and take a major regulatory shift in perspective to increasingly turning to renewable energy.Jordan and Egypt are both, with different speed, on the way towards an energy transition leading to an increased renewable energy penetration. However, difficulties can be discovered in both countries and different barriers and drivers for change can be assessed. In this book, the contributors attempt to provide a thorough study of the stakeholders of the renewable energy sources’ projects implemented in the field in both countries. The four authors discuss the status quo in Egypt and Jordan and explore a future outlook on the transformation in both countries. Furthermore, the book focuses on examining the socio‐economic impact of a sustainable renewable energy transition. In 2015, FES in the MENA region created a regional sustainability‐ project, working on Renewable Energy and Climate Change. The office of FES Amman serves as a regional link for MENA activities under this sustainability project. The establishment of this project is in line with the needed energy‐political shift within the region.
