The Padre's War Diary: Based on the Personal WWII Diary of: Rev. Major Michael Dalton

Brian Dalton
4.9/5 (19218 ratings)
Description:The action in this book is centered around war, but it does not glorify war. It glorifies the human spirit and the selflessness and sacrifices of the thousands who died to defeat tyranny. The ideas in this book center around such courage and the will to defeat evil. The original Diary was written by my uncle Rev. Major 'Mike" Dalton Chaplain of the Essex Scottish Regiment of Windsor and area during 4 of his 6 years in uniform. This book took me over 4 1/2 years to complete. Extensive research was used to make the images authentic. During the long hours of drawing it became clear that I had the opportunity to use the project to help raise awareness of the problem of PTSD. This is done through the inclusion of descriptions of the horrors that are the causes of such extreme stress. Although it is based on a Diary it is also a story- the story of a man born in rural Ontario who later in life found himself in extraordinary circumstances, in a unique time and place in history with the inclination, skill and foresight to write about it for posterity. The book consists of a large selection of daily Diary entries made by the Padre during his time as a Chaplain in the Canadian Army. His entries range from the tragic to the humorous, from travels with the infantry in England through France, Belgium, to the liberation of Holland, up to and over the border into Germany. Some entries were written in Jeeps, or army trucks or tents or even slit trenches, where the Padre took cover while shrapnel pierced his helmet above ground. There are 200 illustrations. Some are 1/2 page, some are full page. The Author of the diary survived the great stress of someone in his position. He was recognized by King George V1 and was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire. He lived a long productive life to one month short of entering his 108th year. This unique book is not just an entertaining good read for all ages, in these troubled times it is a good reminder of the potentially noble spirit that resides in each of us, although we may not be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice. I do not think it is too much to describe the book as inspiring. Padre Dalton dedicated his original diary: "To all those Jews and non Catholics who helped make my war years livable and I hope useful". His inclusion of all faiths in post war ceremonies to honour him made him a friend to all.We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
