Description:Excerpt from Historical Discourse: Delivered at the Centennial Anniversary of the Congregational Church, Candia, N. H., April 5, 1871The freeholders of Chester at their annual meeting March 2 5, 1 762, being so requested, signified their assent that the residents in the northwest part of the town might be set off as a separate parish. And March 22, 1 763, thirty-eight settlers petitioned the General Assembly of the Province of New Hampshire for an act of incorporation. They gave as their only reason for the request, the situation of the place where we live in is such that we cannot without much difficulty attend the publick worship of God with our familys in good weather, and at many times in the year not at all. Their petition was te ceived in Council June 2, and in the House of Representatives Dec. 2, 1763. The charter was given, in the House Dec. 16, and in Council Dec. 17, 1763.
