Marion Sims has left an autobiography of several hundred pages, giving a full account of his life and work up to 1863; and that he left in manuscript a revised and more or less completed work on The Surgical Diseases of Women, both of which are soon to be published. What I have to say to-night, up to the time when I first met Dr. Marion Sims in 1868, has been taken directly from the manuscript of his autobiography.In his autobiography, after some preliminary remarks, he begins: It is a trite saying, that 'every life is a poem, be it long or short.'
