Hat aber die Congruenz -eo (mod. P) die Wurzel 2" und bestimmt man a, so, dafs zwang, (mod. P) ist, so folgert man leicht, dafs '61 eine Wurzel der Congruenz (mod. P) sein werde. Wir erhalten demnach die Gleichung -m]a" ep' wo e eine ganze Zahl bedeutet. Zieht man diese Gleichung von 0 ab, so sieht man leicht, dafs das Resultat sich werde auf die Form (w-8p 0 bringen lassen, wo k" ganze Zahlen bedeuten, die von a1, a" a"_1 und von E, abhangen. Es ist aber offenbar, dafs die symme trischen ganzen Functionen der Wurzeln der Gleichungen296 l4.
