Willard realizes he isn’t getting any younger, turns the agency over to Miller who has proven himself over the sixteen years. Miller suspects the reason for the shooting wasn’t as the Carbondale Police think, a mugging gone bad, but rather a case Willard is working on.Miller’s hunch is verified when he meets with a mysterious figure from the U.S. Government. The person explains in not totally truthful terms what the Medallion is.During the course of the book, Miller fights off assassins, Nazis who want the secret of the Medallion preserved, and a whole cast of bad guys. Most of the adventure takes place in Argentina. He is ably assisted by a woman with a mysterious past, Morgan Burke. When Miller confides to Willard about her, Willard surprises him by telling him she is his granddaughter. Morgan and Miller eventually become an item.I mix fictional history with non-fictional history throughout this story. Of course, the Medallion and its background is fictitious, but some of the facts that are discussed in the story either did happen (Eva Peron) or could have happened (Hitler escaping from Germany with U.S. aid.
