Description:In the year 2001 I published an article on the coming financial crisis, both in Argentina (Boletín de Lecturas Sociales y Económicas, Universidad Católica Argentina, “EL SINDROME LEADEN BALL”, in Spanish) and Belgium (Solvay Business Review, from the same name’s Business School, “LE SYDROME DU BOULET DE PLOMB”, in French). The first paragraph’s translation reads: “An enormous, gigantic, heavy, massive “Leaden Ball” rolls over our heads rumbling menacingly from continent to continent and from country to country. Uncontrollable, impossible to preview, its heavy movements carry along destruction and drama… Only the will of uncontrollable myriads of individual operators, pension funds, banks, insurance corporations, anybody large or small in-teracting in finance, may unexpectedly send the Ball rolling from Hong Kong to Brazil, from Mexico to the Far East, creating financial and eco-nomic havoc, throwing millions of jobless people out into the streets, ruin-ing industries, banks and commerce in its unstoppable way.”In 2004, seeing things were getting ever more dangerous, I came back to the theme, and this time I published a book both in Spanish (same former title) and in English (“THE LEADEN BALL SYNDROME”). My colleagues found I was quite wrong.Now, eight years later, I rewrote the book, bringing it to date November 30 2008, because every day there appear new happenings and the situation is becoming ever more dangerous; anyway, now the way we are going is clear enough to allow us to appreciate the LEADEN BALL’s disastrous consequences.
