Description:Excerpt from The Haney Family: A Brief Record of an American ClanMy interest in the history of the Haney Family began at the age of Sixteen, when I came across a copy of William J. Buck's Account of the Buck Family of Bucks County, Pennsylvania (1893) and found therein interesting references to our ancestors dating back as far as 1745. Since that time, whenever opportunity afforded, I gleaned further information about the early Haneys in Pennsylvania.The inauguration Of the Haney Reunions in 1910 and the organization of the Haney Family Association under the leadership of my uncle, the late Michael G. Haney, Of Ottsville, Pa., stimulated that interest and made available new sources of information. It was impossible, however, to make a proper Search Of the scattered records in the manner of a professional genealogist. During the past twenty years I had hoped that some Haney who was nearer the sources of our family history might undertake the task. Now that our Association is rounding out its second decade and the really capable Historian has not yet appeared, it seemed desirable to commit the present material to print, in spite of its shortcomings. Members of the family will find many gaps and not a few errors in the following record, but they should know that out of one hundred and fifty questionnaire-blanks which were sent out, only ninety were returned.
