The Discovery of New Brittaine (March of America Facsimile Series #24)

Unknown Author
4.9/5 (11774 ratings)
Description:This is a library copy (facsimile by A Subsidiary of Xerox Corporation) of the travel journals of Edward Bland as he journeyed into the N. American continent on the request of the British Crown. This instance of Bland's work was produced in the 1960's in the United States of America and is held by the Bexley Public Library in Bexley, Ohio, USA (see bibliographic metadata below).--------------------------------------------------Some scholarly notes supplied by creator of this record*:1. Some bibliographic control and metadata items from my instance* of this work.LC Catalog Card No.: 66-26309Language(s):Some words and names are present, seemingly derived from an unknown Native American language, that have been transcribed into the English system of spelling of the early modern period of the English language, a style similar to the language of a Rite I Eucharist in the American/Episcopalian prayer book. It is interesting to note that much of what is discussed in this work is written in a style reflecting considerable use of various archaisms of the English language (predominantly orthographical and syntactical archaisms), indicating that this work may in fact represent a fine example of Early Modern English prose.Instance(s):My instance is held by the Bexley Public Library in Bexley, Ohio, USA. There is no ISBN, but ownership has been established in a style generally observed to be represented in some of the instances of older works that may be found in the various collections of the BPL. The Dewey Number was selected as 917.5 w/ no Cutter Number (by a cataloger unknown to me*).2. A possible citation in APA format.Bland, E. (1966). March of America Facsimile Series: Number 24. The Discovery of New Brittaine [in italics]. Ann Arbor, MI: University Microfilms, Inc. (Xerox). 3. For the metadata librarian or other researcher/scholar.It would be interesting to see some linked data identifiers created for this work (resulting in further scholarship), as some of the individuals mentioned in this work are often under-represented in the primary source works of the place and era (i.e. members of First Nations in the 'Americas'). As far as primary sources go, this work seems typical of others like, it in my experience* -- that is, with works like this, the exploits of colonizers are often emphasized over the colonized, and the languages and cultures of the colonized peoples are filtered through a Euro-Centric ideological and linguistics lens. Subjecting this instance to RDA methodologies such as FRAD and FRBR may present great utility to the practice of curation (as has been attempted above), and a more quantitative and systematic bibliographic description may allow for greater intellectual and physical control and/or an increase in productive scholarship for researcher users. I could not find this work in two different academic libraries during a routine search of their respective discover layers*. These libraries include the University of Michigan's research library, as well as that of Drexel University. Also, I did find several other works and instances that appeared to share a relation to the subject of Bland's work, described above. Perhaps in the subject analysis for these works, metadata was identified which links Bland's work described above to these works?--------------------------------------------------*CW - Goodreads user, professional librarian, and the creator of the above notes. We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
