Young writer and actor Jeremy Higgins is delighted when he is accepted into the Bravo Boys Theatre Company after auditioning. However he is not so delighted when he realizes that an old school acquaintance, Declan Bannister, is also joining the company. Jeremy is mortified when one afternoon in the theatre’s main dressing room, Declan gives him a spray of foul abuse, accusing him of ogling him in the mirror. Well Jeremy had to admit to himself that he had been rather absent-mindedly admiring Declan’s pert white butt cheeks, but where was the crime in that? Actually Jeremy and Declan had quite a bit of history at Bay City High School. Jeremy had fallen into the habit of filling his mind with images of a naked Declan Bannister during his early-morning fantasizing and had begun to believe he was falling for the guy. But then he had experienced a series of weird incidents with Declan in the school change rooms and toilets. Declan would expose himself to Jeremy and then when the other boy had fallen under his spell, he would abuse him, calling him ‘a dirty fag.’ Over time Jeremy began to feel that Declan was suffering from having a split personality, one half of him straight and the other gay. However while he is still in his final year at school, Jeremy becomes involved in the making of a television documentary about the mysterious Boranup Forest, supposedly haunted by mythical creatures. Having decided to give up on the increasingly erratic and violent Declan, Jeremy finds himself being attracted to the young Chinese director of photography working on the doco, Lee Fong. The two guys are obviously taken with each other, but Lee is adamant that before any sex happens, they must wait until Jeremy turns eighteen and graduates from high school. Eventually the great day arrives and Jeremy loses his virginity to Lee who lives in a crumbling castle-like building. The relationship takes off and Jeremy feels that they will be spending the rest of their lives together. However he is a bit concerned when he realizes that Lee wants the relationship to be kept a secret. He’s not very keen on them being known around town as boyfriends. Although he is deliriously in love with Lee, Jeremy realizes that his ‘partner’ is a man of mystery. He knows very little about him. Are his parents still alive? Does he have siblings? Eventually Jeremy is shocked when Lee decides to reveal what he calls ‘the dark side’ of his character to him. He shows the younger boy some very graphic gay porn he has been producing. Jeremy is even more shocked when he realizes that his ex-friend Declan is a star performer in the porn.
