The meaning of the Revelations for those who are living a contemplative life today is explored through reflections on Julian’s place in English literature and the tradition of Christian prayer. A. M. Allchin (1930–2010) first gained recognition as a writer with The Silent Rebellion, a study of the nineteenth-century recovery of the monastic life in the Anglican Church. He wrote on many aspects of spirituality and theology. He was Warden of the Sisters of the Love of God from 1967 to 1995. Sister Benedicta Ward SLG has written and translated a number of books on early monasticism and aspects of the Middle Ages. She is Emeritus Reader in the History of Christian Spirituality at the University of Oxford, a Supernumerary Fellow of Harris Manchester College and a Fellow of St Stephen’s House Theological College. Sister Eileen Mary SLG (1921–1999) was a regular contributor to the Fairacres Chronicle, and the author of Door through Darkness: St John of the Cross and Mysticism in Everyday Life.
