But it is not widely known that, on some important points in these witty poems, T.S. Eliot was actually wrong! Growltiger’s “Last Stand”, for example, can now be revealed to not actually have been his last! Similarly, the BARK BARK BARK of the Pekes and the Pollicles – which understandably Eliot very seriously mistranslated – has finally been decoded. This collection of pastiche-homage poems also introduces such notably impractical but hitherto unsung dogs as: Justopher Bones, the Dumble Dog, Shambleskunk the Delivery Dog, Abracadabra the Magical, Old Methusalem, the Hundrum Dugger, Bill the Television Dog, Jack the Guard Dog (Formerly Mad Jack Whacker, the Desperate Bushranger), and the mysterious and fearsome Ma Cafferty. Certain other facts about possums, opossums, wombats, and marmots are also revealed, as well as a short exploration of alternative doggifications of Eliot’s feline friends, and some background to Eliot’s own poems, and their spin-offs. Just to set the record straight, “Old Possum” had a lot to tell of cats, because he knew them well. And some were quaint, and some were tough, and other fancy feline stuff.
