Description:Isabel Engel Horulu, the editor of this collection of her father's poems, has resided in İstanbul since 1960.About the Poems:Poetry is an expression of soul; it will touch another's. Imagery, flow of words, meter and subject, all create a delicate apoge , a linking up across time. These poems were written by my father, Martin Engel. Most of them were written in the short period between 1943- 1945. Many were not dated. They were mainly hand-printed on index cards or leaves of memo pads. These sixty-year-old bits of paper flaked or crumbled in my hands. A lifelong procrastinator, I realized it was publish my father's poems now, or never. I chose now, The poems speak for themselves. The eternal themes of the human condition: youth, beauty, joy, love, growing old, and the witty appreciation of daily things are a treat that awaits the reader.I have chosen to comment as briefly as possibly on the poems set in the "amber" of his life frame. Many of the poems directly reflect the period in which he lived, "Cherry Trees," written in April 1945 upon the death of our beloved President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, for one. A patriotic American, Martin worked the night shift legal staff at Grunman Aviation as part of the war effort. "Nite Worker" and "To a Guy in the Accounting Department" are two poems writ- ten from this time. The "Brave New World" series of poems reflect his dream of a better life for all peoples after World War II and his vision of his own participation in the "new order." Russia was a for- midable ally throughout World War II. The depression of 1929 with its horrendous ongoing economic suffering of many years indelibly scarred the generation who lived through those years, Martin Engel among them. As a final note, it might be of interest that an eighteen month stay in upstate New York, a hiatus from the strains of daily living, released in my father the notable "Indian Lake Series," "Cayuga Love Legend," "Lake Mohegan," etc. Here are the poems. I hope you enjoy them. Copyright Isabel Engel Horolu, 2004. All rights reserved.Added by: @ahmed_k_masterlyWe have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
