Global Burden

Lisa Jo Symonds
4.9/5 (18664 ratings)
Description:Global Burden is a book written by Lisa Jo Symonds, featuring several talented authors - each telling their own stories and experiences living in the times of a global pandemic, in this case - Covid-19 (scientific name SARS-coV-2).The news has provided information about the virus itself, and of unemployment rates, issues in treating the virus, political agendas, etc., but fails to accurately portray what the people are feeling, thinking, worrying about, how they are responding to social distancing orders, if they have been dragged into the horrific political battle that is erupting as protestors stand up around the country demanding it be re-opened. Some struggle to pay bills and feed their families, others cannot find babysitters because of the lock-down as the nation takes a pause. Homeschooling causing problems for parents and children alike. The fears of having to shop, or not following the new rules in public places because they do not understand them or they feel it violates their individual rights. Many have lost jobs and business,. Suicide, addiction, overdose, domestic violence, and abuse are all on the rise as people struggle to maintain mental health as we struggle through these times as a nation. Many photos of news headlines and posts made by various random people on social media are included in this book in random order and in an unbiased way to give the reader better understanding of what it is truly like to personally live through a global pandemic.About the author: Lisa Jo Symonds has a dual master's degree in health sciences - public health. She is currently working as a Public Health Advisor with New York City Health and Hospitals on the Covid-19 Response Team. She continues the works to improve the lives of those in a small community in Mbale, Uganda, where she is also the American Ambassador of The Hope for Rural Orphans (an orphanage in Uganda). Her goal is to use her education and training combined with life-skills and determination to help that community and others reach a point of sustainability through the education, hard work, and proper planning of the residents there. Lisa Jo writes and publishes books in her spare time, and is an activist for policy changes in mental health and addiction treatment.
