Description:The main aim of this publication is comprehensive look at a fragment of the history of the Polish People's Republic and the history of the Polish press in 1955-1958 by analyzing many of its aspects - the policy of the authorities and censorship, the perspective of the journalistis, the history of many press titles and editorial teams, a different perspective of Warsaw and regional press. For this reason, the presented volume is probably something more than a collection of articles and may aspire to the title of a collective monograph of the press during the Thaw, although it certainly does not exhaust the topic. During the Stalinist period the Polish press became a party propaganda tool, and its main task was the so-called transfer of communist party policy to the society. The death of Stalin in March 1953 began the period of erosion of this model, and 1956 challenged him. With the stabilization of power in 1957, the rulers regained control of the media. The press until the collapse of the system - despite a few exceptions and another crisis in 1980–1981 - remained the party propaganda weapon, and journalists soldiers who served on the front lines. Nevertheless, the Polish press, like the whole country after 1956 may appear as an oasis of freedom and diversity, regardless of many restrictions.
