Psalms, Hymns, and Spiritual Songs (Annotated): King James Version

Unknown Author
4.9/5 (17784 ratings)
Description:This book is an abridged edition of the 1769 King James Bible, which is in public domain outside the United Kingdom. Only passages from Exodus, Deuteronomy, 2 Samuel, Psalms, Habakkuk, and Revelation have been reproduced. None make up a complete book, not even Psalms (43 missing chapters). Passages are organized by chapter under the categories of “psalm,” “hymn,” and “spiritual song” as they appear in The Apostolic Bible Polyglot (1995). Within each chapter, passages appear in biblical order. This book also contains an introduction, an appendix, and a bibliography. The appendix consists of biographies (e.g. names in psalm titles) and definitions of musical terms in psalm titles.I created this book in order to correct the linguistic ignorance of people who think musical instruments are confined to the Old Testament and thus want to confine church music to acapella. The words “psalms,” “hymns,” and “songs,” in the letters of the apostle Paul (Eph. 5:19; Col. 3:16), correspond to words in psalm titles in the Septuagint. These three words are musical terms. Many of the psalms in which they appear were meant to be played with instruments, e.g. cornet, cymbal, harp, organ, psaltery, timbrel, and trumpet. Incidentally, King David created some of those instruments (1 Chr. 23:5; 2 Chr. 7:6, 29:26; Neh. 12:36). Instruments appear in the New Testament too, e.g. cymbal (1 Cor. 13:1), harp (1 Cor. 14:7; Rev. 5:8, 14:2, 15:2), pipe (1 Cor. 14:7), and trumpet (Matt. 6:2, 24:31; 1 Cor. 14:8, 15:52; 1 Thess. 4:16; Heb. 12:19; Rev. 1:10, 4:1, 8:2, 8:6, 8:13, 9:14). A closed canon shouldn’t mean an end to creativity for the glory of God. We can still make new instruments and write new songs. We have made it easy for you to find a PDF Ebooks without any digging.
